Project Background

The Highways Agency Area 2 Enhanced Managing Agent Contract (EMAC) incorporates the maintenance and management of a large proportion of the trunk road network within the South West of England, including the M4 and M5 motorways, the Severn Crossings, and the A303 and A4.

Led by Tim Doyle, Crown directed Hanson Contracting’s input into the contract, working in the capacity of Level 1 Supply Chain Partner to the main contractor, InterRoute.

Tim and his Team project managed all planned and reactive surfacing works, together with the programming, target costing, and construction management of all larger highways led schemes.

In addition, the co-location of Crown’s Team within InterRoute’s Area 2 head office facilitated significant input into the design and planning process.

To date we have successfully completed 15 schemes, examples of which include:

• £1.9 million reconstruction and resurfacing of the A4 Saltford, nr Bath
• £2.3 million refurbishment of the M5 between Junction 25 and 26
• £12 million reconstruction of the A40 between Over and Highnam
