This joint venture between Hanson Construction Projects and Stenoak Associated Services Limited (Stenoak) involved the partial reconstruction of the M27 between junctions 2 and 4; including carriageway, drainage, safety fencing and communication networks. Although the contract started smoothly, Stenoak entered into administrative receivership when around fifty percent of the job was completed.
Crown initially provided management staff to both of the JV partners, including Tim Doyle, who as appointed as the overall site manager for the scheme. After Stenoak went into receivership, Hanson appointed Crown to continue with the management of the site and rebuild the team. Also, to re-engage existing supply chain members, and identify back-up suppliers to deliver the scope of works, originally allocated to Stenoak.
During this time, various parties, originally appointed by Stenoak, sought outstanding payments from Hanson. Following these disputes, Crown was retained by Hanson to help settle the final account and assist in a number of tribunal proceedings with Stenoak’s sub-contractor's.
In the payment disput with Stenoak’s subcontractors, Tim Doyle acted as a witness on behalf of Hanson and gave evidence at the High Court for each hearing.
In addition, Tim acted as liaison between Hanson and its solicitors in the coordination of other witnesses and document searches, including extensive work as part of the investigation phase of proceedings.
Over a four-year period, Crown’s involvement proved instrumental in helping Hanson successfully defend five cases. In addition, there were 889 Final Account items settled, including 168 Compensation Events or changes to the works information, agreed.
The M27 Contract demonstrated Crown’s ability to adapt to changing circumstances at short notice.
By transferring existing staff and subcontractors and sourcing replacements to maintain adequate supervision and resource, Hanson was able to deliver the remainder of the contract.
